Coker Tire Company is searching for an organized, creative and dedicated Event Coordinator to fulfill the role of managing the many special events and travel needs of our business. Not only does Coker Tire provide event management for The Great Race, the Event Coordinator is responsible for managing the logistics and start-to-finish details of several local and company events.

*The Chattanooga Cruise-in, held each April, draws over 2500 participants and 15,000 spectators to the Southside of Chattanooga. The Event Coordinator works with city officials and local businesses to secure all necessary event permits and street closures as well as to recruit and secure vendors and sponsors. The individual in this position works with the Marketing department on promotion and logistics, coordinates staff and volunteers and serves as the key contact the day of for any issues that arise.

*The Great Race is a mulit-day vintage car rally across the United States. With a different route each year, this position requires someone who can build and maintain relationships with city contacts across the country, organize events from afar and handle the electronic registrations of racing teams. This individual must be proactive and prepared at all stages of planning and event execution. The person in this position travels along with The Great Race at the end of June, troubleshooting any issues that arise, coordinating volunteers and ensuring the pre-scheduled events at each city stop run smoothly.

*The Coker Tire Challenge in September is a weekend regional car rally through the mountains and valleys of East Tennessee. The Event Coordinator works with the marketing team to promote and coordinate this event including handling registrations, collecting insurance and drivers’ licenses for participants and planning the kick off gathering and awards luncheon.

*The annual SEMA Show in Las Vegas each November is one of the largest trade shows in the world attracting more than 100,000 industry leaders from more than 100 countries. The Event Coordinator works months in advance securing booth space, obtaining permits, planning staff travel, placing catering and utility orders and fine tuning all the minor details for Coker’s exhibitor spaces. In addition, Coker sponsors special events, such as breakfasts, cocktail parties and other events during the SEMA Show. The Event Coordinator will play a significant role in ensuring these occasions are a success.

In addition to the 4 special events above, Coker Tire sponsors and hosts many other events throughout the year, from motorcycle rallies and classic car tour stops to fundraisers and corporate gatherings. The Event Coordinator handles museum rentals, special tours and the oversight of all venue space. He/she is charged with creating and maintaining rental contracts and works with renters on catering, street closures and permits, security, entertainment and event planning. The Event Coordinator also plans company holiday parties and other staff events and assists with travel arrangements for executives and other staff.

The Event Coordinator will maintain the company’s event calendar, create and maintain standard operating procedures or guides for each annual event and make recommendations for improvements.

The schedule for this position varies. The person in this position should expect a standard 5-day work week (Monday-Friday) as well as evening and weekend shifts to cover events and for traveling. Local travel is common in this position. In addition, the Event Coordinator will be expected to travel overnight approximately 25 days out of the year.


  1. Bachelor’s degree in related field
  2. At least 3+ years full-time event management/coordination experience required
  3. Ability to calmly and professionally handle multiple priorities, deadlines and events simultaneously
  4. Excellent problem solving skills
  5. Advanced experience with Microsoft Office; must be proficient in Excel
  6. Experience with bookkeeping and accounting software; experience booking travel a plus
  7. Advanced oral and written communication skills
  8. Exceptional organization and time management skills
  9. Send of urgency and strong attention to detail
  10. Ability to work independently and prioritize
  11. Flexibility of schedule
  12. Willingness to travel both locally and nationally
